@keith I think you can pretty much test anything
-
I'll be very interested in the horse racing software too but am by no means an expert!
I'm wondering if there will be anything to look at certain trainers and jockeys at certain tracks? Things like that which will normally take a long time to back test. -

@chris-osborne It was just that I thought, if I did have access to the horse racing software what would I do. I know Martin said there will be a guide and suggested strategies, but if I were to approach it cold where would I start.
Exactly where I am as well

Come on then, what strategies are people going to start back testing with the horse racing software?
I'm willing to be the first one to look stupid as I have no clue, but will obviously have to back any horse with red and blue colours, or has either "crystal" "palace" or "eagle" in their name.
From my little bit of scalping, I wonder how successful it is to lay odds on horses that have only run 1 or 2 races. Or have not raced in over 60+ days?
Will the software be able to spot horses that get off to a good start but fade later on?I’ll join you in the looking stupid and having no clue camp

@john-folan jockey probably thought he had done his job, ‘surely that’s enough to Trob for John let’s pull back’
Probably did. Something was wonky about it as he was running really well. 3.7 into 1.24 I needed 1.23

Bit gutting today. First horse pulls up and second horse missed trobbing by a tiny amount before fading.
-
- Yes.
- It will constantly be updated so anything that crops up will be dealt with. Almost certain there will be issues at some point so we are dripping in access to the waiting list.
- Backtesting will be a game changer for this!
-
@dan-mackinnon don’t worry we have got systems in place now that the next piece of software will be much smoother to make. Football is the next one, there are two things I want on it backtesting and a filter for end of season so I don’t have to check that.
-
@stuart-wallace haha, good to see we use the same approach to horse racing.
As for the software, with my knowledge of horses it could just be a random name generator! All I'm saying is that, with or without the software if people wanted to collaborate we could try and learn a little beforehand? Otherwise everyone will just be hitting random buttons hoping for the best - again a little insight into my intended approach.

@dan-mackinnon Ah, but 1) does it work? 2) Is it clear of bugs? , and ........3) Will it make a total Horse Racing trader idiot like me any money?!.
Must admit, my previous experience of trying to make money on HR was like pissing in the wind hoping none splashes on my shoes.-
It works. I’ve had it working on my phone and iPad as well.
-
Probably not, but find me a piece of software that is. Most of them are gone and I’ve double checked data elsewhere and it is accurate.
-
Steep learning curve will be needed but there is stuff in there that will help. Horse racing is not as easy as people think it is to master. Systems have always been a problem as back testing is still a problem and we will have to have a caveat that data from March 2020 to probably late last year will have been affected by covid and all the restrictions. My trobs for example whilst profitable slowed up a lot. Only really returning to normal now. Last seasons flat for example was pretty flat(couldn’t resist).

As much as it is frustrating to have to wait, there's been so much hype that you can only make one first impression. If they rushed to release it and it was full of bugs and didn't work everyone would moan and wouldn't trust them when they did something similar for the football software (hint, hint ). There's also football and tennis software and collaborative projects. If some people did want to investigate horse racing, I know I'm a complete newbie, maybe we could do a collaborative paper trading project while we wait?
That, or as @Martin said, him and @John-Folan have decided to keep it for themselves.
Peasants
In all seriousness I tried to break it yesterday and Saturday and couldn’t. Adam has a couple of minor bits to sort out and then he can have a nervous breakdown as he starts to let more people have access.

@martin is this software ever going to be releases
Nearly there
Believe it when I see it
Because of comments like this, we have decided not to release it and just to keep it for @John-Folan and ourselves
