@stuart-wallace this is mental!!!
Then look at why we've always had the big lumps and France have had some unreal players.
Although Frank Lampard would Argue Mason Mount doesn't need a small goal as he's the best player there is.

@keith-anderson Glenn Hoddle got rejected from Spurs as a youngster. I’ve just finished Bob Mortimer’s book and he got rejected from Middlesbrough for being too anti-social!
I know someone who’s a professional youth coach for a League 1 side and he tells me how hard it is to predict how 17-18 year olds will develop so never mind trying to do that for 9-11 year olds.

@keith-anderson Yep, Maradona , Ronaldo other examples. However, i think continental teams tend not to look at the physical aspect too much.
A little anecdote i have ... my son , was aged about 11 at time, went on a football tourno in France with his team over easter, we all went on the coach, arrived at the tourno and saw all the French kids practising across the pitch with small goals - all about ball control. Anyway to cut a long story, about 6 months later my sons coach (Millwall fan, which sorta says it all), comes up to me and says 'Stu, sign here'.... 'what am i signing for Norm?'.... 'oh, we're getting up a petition coz the London FA are forcing us to practice across the pitch, like that time in France, but we dont wanna do that, we want to have big goals, big lump upfield and the biggest kid gets the goals- like weev always done, innit'
i refused to sign..... i got pelters for ages for not signing from most of the (generally Millwall supporting ) parents. -

That's interesting about George Best being rejected.
The same happened with Doncaster Rovers my local team. They rejected Kevin Keegan for the very same reasons he was to small and not physical enough. CRAZY in hindsight. So he went to Scunthorpe as a young player and then the world was his oyster as you say.I really hope clubs don't do this but i must admit it still exists especaily at the younger age groups around 9-12 years from my experince. They tend to look at the physical athletic attributes of players as they do have an advantage over their peers at that time (pre teens)but in the future, 5 years plus down the line things do change.
They probably don't do it now. I think players like Deco, Xavi, Iniesta and Messi changed that!

@keith-anderson Yeah I'd hope you can continue to grow your league first, at the very least puts the Northern Irish clubs in a better position to negotiate strength in any agreement .. Linfield amazed me with the contract between the infra structure they benefit from the NI FA but also how low brow their 'committee; were in terms of decision making .. I think you're probably a better run club, or were when I was over there.

@keith-anderson Haha thats what I like to hear - a properly measured view of the opposition
We did quite a bit down south as well with the likes of UCD in terms of recruitment . Enjoyed it over there and some very good players in both leagues
The League of Ireland are skint now and they've been trying to convince us (Irish League) to merge and have an All-Ireland League. Most clubs in the Republic of Ireland are full-time, but the Northern Irish Leaue only has 3 full-time clubs and they've only recently went full-time. The fans up here are split on the idea.
Our league is changing for the better, so I hope we hold off for a few years. Linfield are funded by the Irish Football Association (always have been), Glentoran have a British - Iranian investor and Larne and now owned by the multimillionaire owner of 'Purple Bricks' (he's originally from the area). Onwards and upwards for our league!
