Hi all,
New member here and quite excited to get involved. I’m from sunny Sydney, Australia and work in HR.
Begin dabbling with Betfair Trading for roughly 6 months and have been loving it but with varied success.
I trade a bit of horses but mainly found myself trading NBA predominantly lately. I have also started trading Test cricket in the last few weeks laying the draw with great success.
I thought I’d found a nice angle on NBA and results were strong early doors on limited stakes but recent results have been dreadful so back to the drawing board on that. I have kept a record of all plays so there is some data for me to work with there.
I’m hoping to this group will help me to find some sustainable strategies as well as build the behind the scenes knowledge (so the “why” as well as the “what”). Hopefully that will help with my consistency.
Looking forward to soaking up some knowledge
Cheers

@sean-fitzgerald I have not had any issues or warnings from them mate. My bank is a well known Australian bank, it's registered to my home address in SA, My understanding is (someone correct me if I'm wrong) Betfair accounts are registered as international except for Romania, so the live betting depends on your geographical location, which makes it easy for us to use a VPN. Perhaps the persons who have had their accounts shut down were using a low-grade security VPN that wasn't enough to cover their tracks? That would be my thought as why some have had their accounts shut down, but your guess is as good as mine!
Also, how have you been going with your NBA trading mate? I love NBA pre-game betting, but don't have any good trading strategies. Cheers mate

@jason-parker
Thanks mate. I’ve got Nord and used a few times but to be honest I’m a bit gun shy because I’ve read a few stories of people having accounts shut down as a result.
Have you had any issues withdrawing to Aussie bank account?
Did you sign up using Aussie address?
I’d really love to be able to live trade as it opens up more more potential. It’s such a ridiculous law.

Hey Sean, I live in Adelaide and I use the AVG VPN to connect to NZ with under 50ms latency for live trading. Can use both on PC and mobile phone. The connection is very stable and the next best connection is Hong Kong for us. I had tried other VPNs like express VPN and the servers were shocking, I would get over 1000ms latency to NZ which would wreck my live trading! But if you live in Sydney you should get a great connection to NZ using AVG. I also use the VPN while using Bet Angel for live betting and it works a treat. Cheers ledge

@martin-futter I was planning to get my own place in Spain, right up until the leave vote won, now like everyone & everything else, I have no idea if I'll still be able to buy and live at least part of the year in Spain.
-
@martin-futter I don't know, all I do know is you can't use a UK BF account in Spain. What I need is my own Spain address.
-
@martin-futter the VPN issue remains though. Nord & Pure don't work, those are the only two I tried, they worked at this time last year.
-
@martin-futter As of November 2018 Betfair operates in some big European countries like Spain, France, Italy and Germany.
taken from wiki.
I searched for the law on Betfair when in Spain last week & it is indeed OK now.

@sean-fitzgerald Betfair is banned in Spain so he would struggle there. (Unless changed recently). i couldn't even get the site to load when I was on holiday! This is my big gripe with the EU trading standards, how so many countries are allowed to ban Betfair in the 'common market' just to protect their own bookmakers, ridiculous in this day and age.

Lately, I've been hearing about people having their BF accounts suspended or closed for using them through a VPN. One guy who lives in the Canaries had his closed permanently, which was very bad news for him as trading was his living. Betfair isn't illegal in Spain, so I guess he could try to open another one with his Spanish address.
Yeah i’ve heard similar. It’s a worry. As much as a ball ache the restrictions around in-play are here I’m not sure the risk is worth it. Dunno

@mark-gladwin That's good news for you guys. Last December in Spain, I could use a VPN for Betfair & a good amout of other UK bookies too. Last week, in Spain again, no luck at all with Betfair & after trying 5 or 6 other books, I called it quits. @jack-tossol Keen to learn more Jack. I’m not great with that side of things.
-
@martin-futter Yes plenty of liquidity there both pre-game and in play

@Neil-Mallett VPN's work fine, im from Aus and set mine to NZ, has worked perfectly!
This - I'm in Cyprus and VPN/VPS works perfectly.

@sean-fitzgerald inplay by phone? That's ludicrous, I can't imagine the reasoning behind that. A free kick in football can be a great time to get on a trade but not by phone, that's for sure.
I guess you just have to adapt. If only VPN's actually worked.
