Hello people ive just joined so thought i would say hi. Ive been trading on and off for a number of years but struggle to make consistant profits. I then found matched betting which has been great for me over the last 3 years but have lost pretty much all my profitable accounts so had to pack that in. Im now back trading and want to make a real go at this now. i seem to make steady small profits then a couple of bigger losses which i really need to stop doing to be profitable. I hope my time here can help me on my way. Im only trading football at the moment and hopefully tennis when my football trading picks up. Be good to hear back from people. Thanks

@keith-anderson Ok thanks for the advice. I'm going to stick to one market and only trade when the market gives me the opportunity.
Quick question when you LTD at half time would you put all of your stake in or split it?You have to do what you're comfortable with. If you can't afford the loss then your stake is too high - lower it. LTD will frustrate you, especially when the underdog takes the lead and you may have to take a small loss on the trade. You have to be comfortable with losses. Building your bankroll and making consistent profit may take months. If you're in a hurry to make money, then you'll be disappointed (your trades are likely to be gambles).
I like to see people succeed in trading. In truth, most don't. That's the harsh reality. If it was easy then everyone would be doing it. Success or failure will utimately be down to one person - You!

@keith-anderson I do understand what you're saying I do feel like i'm gambling instead of trading sometimes. I think over the weekend I'll make my selections and stick to a plan. If I see any opportunities I'll just leave them and stick to my selections and plan. See how this weekend goes. Thanks for replying much appreciated
What is in your plan? Stick to one market in one sport. Last night you were on LCS, LTD, Over 2.5 goals, Under 2.5 goals and laying teams. That's difficult to manage.
When I LTD at HT it is sometimes difficult to wait until HT. You have to learn to trade what the market gives you. Stats provide me with probabilities to trade with. When you trade using possibilities that's when it becomes a gamble.

@keith-anderson I do agree I think I see too many trading opportunities and jump straight in. Some come off and some don't. What is your advice?

@Ben-Jolley Also, you said you don't think you're far off from being a profitable trader. I beg to differ. I have to make that judgement from your trades / performance last night. There is no point having a trading plan if you don't stick to it.
You may be able to pick out trading opportunities, but you have a problem executing your trades. You have a problem with discipline - unfortunately, that's a very big problem.
Sorry if my line is harsh, but there's no point in side stepping the issues. You don't want to be visiting the same issues in 6 months. The way you traded last night was the way I was trading 2 years ago.

Hello there thanks for replying guys, i definatley dont stay in trades too long. I usually have a set plan before any trade so i dont think that is my problem. Also I dont care about losses I take them on the chin and move on no problem. But the 1 or 2 losses i have in a evening seem to kill all the good trades ive made that evening and puts me at a loss. Let me example my lasts nights trading.
was looking to LTD on the inter game at half but inter scored just before half time so that killed that. Then fiorentina scored to make it 1-1 and all the inplay stats indicated that fiorentina were going on to win so i backed them. Then inter scored so had to exit at a loss. Looking back I should have LTD instead of backing fiorentina.
Sociedad were 2-1 down at home and inplay stats were telling me that a goal for them was coming and it did but didnt back it in time so LTD and ended 2-2 small loss no problem.
Halifax game under 2.5 was gonna trade out after 20mins but decided to let it ride. That win would cover the inter v fiorentina loss. No problem.
Schalke LTD at half that came in but the wrong team scored so profit wasnt as high as if schalke scored. But small win again happy days.
Bayern game i went for over 2.5 goals and exit as soon as a goal went in first half or exit if no goals. Decided not to exit at half as bayern were all over them in the inplay stats. A goal went in early second half so decided to exit. Small loss. No problem. Would have been much more if I exited at half time.
Maidenhead game backed under 2.5 goals looking to trade out at 20 mins then a goal went in early but decided to not trade out as a loss and let it ride a bit. Took a small loss in the end.
Espanyol at home, inplay stats were strong they were all over eibar so backed them. They scored second half so took small profit.
Koln backed over 2.5 goals let that ride, that came in.
Werder Bremen backed under 2.5 goals and trade out before 20. Werder Bremen scored early so had to take a small loss.
Then came the usual big loss. I wanted to back under 2.5 goals on the sirius game that ryan tipped but missed the kick off so decided to LTD at half time. I checked the inplay stats and it was a perfect LTD selection. So i did and that obviously lost which killed my profits for the evening. So basically if I didnt do that selection I would have been in profit or if that selection would have come in i would have had a good evening. I just need to cut out these losses and i would be making money. Not sure if it is a staking issue? As my winning trades are not as much as my losing trades? Any help would be great as I dont think im that far off being a profitable football trader. ThanksHi Ben,
Firstly I think you have already identified the issues on each of your trades. Some of the trades you missed out on, so you changed your trading plan? The Sirius game (you said you missed the kick-off) - that trade was gone.
I think I know why you changed a few of your trades - you're frightened of missing out. If you look at every match, you can find a trading opportunity. The problem when you deviate from your trading plan, then they tend to turn into a gamble.
If you miss a trade you miss a trade. Protect your bankroll.
Successful traders are masters at delaying gratification. That's what sets us apart from punters.

@ben-jolley Hello Ben, i'm also new to community, here to learn to trade other sports other than horse racing. My question would be, are you able to identify why you made those bigger losses? e.g. did you stay in a trade longer than you should hoping it would go your way? I know when i trade football i have a habit of staying in to long convincing myself a goal is coming.

Thanks for the response micheal. Be good to compare results in a couple of weeks. Good luck

@ben-jolley Hey Ben. Thought I'd give you a shout since you're not getting much response so far. I've just signed up myself today and hoping to be on the rich list soon. I've just started trading following a relatively successful period of matched betting.
Good luck with your trading, lets hope we receive some good results form BTC
