TLDR: I'm new and don't have a clue
Evening guys, sorry for the incoming wall of text your about to read and i apologise for you taking up the 5 minutes of your life (which you wont get back) to read it.
I'm Chris i'm 36 years old married with 2 kids. Joined a few days ago after watching Ryan's 30 days of a trader YouTube video (which i watch on my phone every morning instead of working) and deciding that this seemed like a natural progression from matched betting which i'm currently doing. I have always been very interested in trading and previously looked at Forex trading but not having built up a large enough bank and the confidence to give it ago as the market moves so quickly. I didn't even know about sport trading until i started matched betting a few months ago. I only decided to do matched betting as a friend told me about it and the fact me and my wife have just bought a brand new house so could do with the extra cash. I would like to say i'm not driven by the money as i know this can have a negative impact on decision making when it comes to trading. I just think its a bit more enjoyable than doing sign up offers with the bookies obviously making a profit is nice.I'm from South Wales and a big Cardiff City fan but happy to take abuse from anyone. I'm absolutely obsessed with the NFL and would love to be able to trade it one day. 49ers are my team this year as i tend to pick a new team every year to keep it interesting among my mates in the fantasy league. My profession is an engineer but dream about having a work from home job one day.
I haven't been using betfair for long and i tend to jump between that and smarkets but find the liquidity isn't anywhere near as good. I only use smarkets for matched betting and the fact i have 0% commission up to Jan 19. I love using the stats software for my football trades but don't really understand all the information being thrown at me and what i'm supposed to be looking for to make a confident decision. I'm really eager to learn though and have bought Caan Berry - Betfair Trading made simple to give me a basic understanding of betfair and how the market works. Saying all that i started with £100 bank and i'm currently up to £147 with only one loosing trade obviously i'm only using small stakes and thanks to Martin, Ryan and Frode's picks on the forum. When i see the list of picks you guys post i then use the stats software to try and work out how you came to picking those games etc.
I'm hoping to develop my skills and knowledge further and interact with you guys which is why i joined the community. Iv been through all the videos, trading strategies and all the other excellent information the site has to offer with the hope in time i will be able to help other people in my position with some ideas / suggestions too.
Anyway iv gone on way longer than intended and i knew that was going be to much before i started
Take it easy guys,
Catch you all soon. -
@ryan-carruthers Ah, ok. Thought you meant there was a Mac version.
Cheers, mate.
-
@ken-mackenzie have to install crossover and then it will run in wine.
It’s so much better than having virtual machine on the Mac.
-
@alan-de-arth All good, i got the code from BetAngel ( CRD16 ). Cheers.
-
@ryan-carruthers said in New and don't have a clue.:
I use Fairbot, that's because I'm on Mac,
There's a Mac version of Fairbot?
-
@chris-watkins Hi Chris, where did you see the 100GBP offer for BetAngel? I can't see it on their page. Cheers.
-
@chris-watkins
Lovely, my wifi is crap on this train so let's hope this works.
Software - there are loads out there, so you can get through close to a year I think before you have to buy one because they all have trials. It comes down to personal preference on which one you choose - I use Fairbot, that's because I'm on Mac, so test some out which one you like choose that. I think software is key, it makes things so much easier to trade out and into trades.

Yes, trading out is greening up.
-
Yep, the market would of perceived the dog had scored first and didnt have the minerals to see it out - exactly as you have spotted, I like to trade at HT and I like to use the correct score market so I can lay the current score, then it doesn't matter who scores, if I get a goal I win.

-
Good, then we can hate Ole Gunnar Solskjær togheter

@Martin-Futter love the college football mate, not as knowledgeable with the teams and players though, however if its on ill watch it. Amazes me how much effort they put into the games, cheerleaders, college bands playing on the sideline. Its like watching a UK football playoff final but every week haha.
@Ryan-Carruthers thank you very much for confirming that. I have a few questions hopefully you guys can help me out with. I didn't want to post them in the football thread because i didn't want to clog it up with all my questions and answers haha.
-
example: Current score 0-0 LTD @ HT team scores in the second half. Is it better to cash out or do a back bet to guarantee a profit? (is that what greening up means?)
-
Tonight was Stjarnan v KA LTD @ HT. Score was 0-0 at half time so i layed the draw. Team scored in the second half but didn't give me a profit to cash out on. Now i hope i'm right but was this because it was the underdog that scored and betfair thought there was a high chance that the favourites would come back into the game? which they did haha. They also scored an 85th minute goal to make it 2-1 which had me off my seat only to find out it was offside.
Final question.... Trading Software
Do you guys use this and is it worth the money? Bet Angel have a £50 off, offer on at the moment so its £100 for the year.
I'm sure i have many more but my brain is fried this evening.

@chris-watkins No need to apologise matey, this trading lark is confusing.
Yep only if its 0-0. I trade out after a goal as well so if I do the 30 min one and there's a goal then I get out and take the profit.
Wow I love 6pm onwards food, beer leave me alone! Sarah (my partner) she gave up ages ago she knows sunday nights are NFL but she's really got into it!
-
@Ryan-Carruthers cheers mate. loving the morning youtube videos, they have helped me no end.
just a quick question while i'm at it, Backing over 1.5 @ 30 and 60 mins does this mean if the score is still 0-0 at those times? so you back it at 30 and then again at 60? sorry i'm still getting use to the terminology.
-
@Keith-Anderson excellent mate, we can crack this together
-
@Martin-Futter thanks mate, appreciate the advice.
I'm currently only doing football, mostly LTD, LCS and under 2.5. Ill be sticking with those and only football for a while as i feel most comfortable.
Regarding the NFL, Sunday evenings religiously, from 6pm on wards everyone in the house knows not to bother me. You will find me in the conservatory with beer, some food and NFL Redzone on.
-
Wow!!
Well done for this post, I am impressed. I laughed a lot when you said about taking the abuse about being a Cardiff City fan.
I am happy to help with anything I can buddy - if you see a trade and have any Q's fire them away on the Youtube or the forum and I will happily help buddy.
I love that the bank is growing as well and looks as though you are steadily growing it with the right stakes!
Well done!
-
@Chris-Watkins I don't know what I'm doing either!
-
@Chris-Watkins welcome mate! Great to hear about your journey to this point.
Regarding the NFL for trading, depending on your hours the best games tend to be the ones live on Sky at 6pm and 9.25 pm on a Sunday as in my experience they have by far the best liquidity.
If you are feeling a bit overwhelmed with the amount of learning I would start with one sport either Football, Cricket, Tennis or Horse Racing. These sports all have incredible liquidity and are possible to make a living out of. If you have a leaning to one of those then start with that.
Great to hear about your good start I hope it continues!
