How to trade Wimbledon First Round
-
It's finally here! The biggest tennis tournament of the year.
Some quick advice on trading the matches, what I look out for is big favourites who go a set or two down and see their price rise sharply as a result. Once I have this here is what I do:
- Watch the match live - absolutely essential
- Watch for signs that a comeback could be on the cards (one or two big points can show this)
- Check the player is still motivated to win despite falling behind (some players will tank)
The market will sometimes overreact in these situations and the prematch favourite can become juicy odds even with plenty of tennis left to be played. If you get a 1.2 shot prematch at 2.0+ it can often be great value! Remember in the men's draw being a one set to love down is not the end of the world, you still have to lose another 2 of the next 4 sets to lose the match.
Be careful of the wave!
Some underdogs thrive from getting ahead in a match and can ride the wave of momentum for a good amount of time, look for signs of tightness or nerves before getting involved.
These opportunities come up a lot in these Grand Slam matches so be sure to take advantage and cash in!
