Hello fellow community members,
I'm John and I live in Great Ayton, North Yorkshire. I'm a semi retired structural engineer who is planning a semi nomadic lifestyle on my sailboat, when I do finally retire, next year.
I started looking at various online income streams about 18 months ago, and did the usual match betting/signing up offers thing. I did got into value betting horse racing, then tennis trading. I enjoined the mathematics and statistical side of match betting, setting up back/lay spreadsheets and analysing the results. I've made lots of emotional mistakes, some quite expensive one's, and I've repeated some of them too, lol. Hopefully most of that is behind me now.
I joined BTC to take me from a hobbyist to a trader with a "this is my business" mindset. I need to be able to cover my living expenses online with an hour or two's structured input a day. Fingers crossed.

Hi Ryan,
I've been planning on sailing the south coast this year, hopefully all the way to Isles of Scilly Archipelago. Then next year a sail across the Channel and across The Bay of Biscay, down to Gibraltar. The idea is not to be in a rush, just to wait for the right wind direction and calm weather. Should give me plenty of time to earn some marina fees

@paul-scott Hi Paul, you cannot beat Petch's Pies, that's for sure.
You are so right about getting the right mind set. I don't think trading is for me, too time consuming and too emotional. I prefer to set and forget, early morning and tea time for an hour. The results are what they are, I generally just download a .csv file from Betfair weekly. As long as there is a upward line of best fit I'm not bothered about individual results.
I'll check out Martins podcasts

@john-brennan hello John welcome to the community your in my neck of the woods I’m based in Middlesbrough venture to your neck of the woods regular for petchs pies!
One thing that helped me with the business mindset is that if you think of a business start up, that business won’t make money every day. Some days it will take a loss, some days it will break even and some days it will make a huge profit. One thing a business doesn’t do after a day of loosing is put it’s prices up the next day, it doesn’t suddenly change its business plan and services. I started to relate this to trading, if I have a loosing afternoon, don’t go chasing on the evening or the next day because that’s not how business works. This has saved me a massive amount of money and heartache. Just like the business I don’t increase stakes anymore to try and chase a profit for the day.
Hope this helps a little bit, Martins podcasts are really good to listen to as well as they helped me change my mindset
