Hi I am new here, I have worked in the betting industry for nearly 20 years, in retail and compiling and now have left. I worked for Hills, Coral, Ladbroke and Done Bros the Betfred, and also worked with a few independents also.

last year dabbled in the pre off trading markets using bet angel, but alot more successfully playing "in play" in person on track.

now have a one year old so more difficult to get on track this year, so thought I would pop in here and see if any of the strategies can help me boost my profits in other areas, and share my experiences of learning to trade pre off, and on track if anyone was interested!

    cant wait to get cracking!

@richard-hardwick said in Newbie Richard from North Yorkshire:

@keith yeah I bought myself a "windows" tablet specifically to try and use some of those programs on course and it just wasn't processing quickly enough unfortunately. Obviously speed is of the essence when playing inplay on the horses so any lag etc can be really costly. I even dropped a couple of emails to some of the existing betfair software firms to see if they could just develop a really quick web/android based one click platform, as I am sure if you already have access to the Exchange API and computing knowledge it cant be that difficult, and I would imagine potentially hugely in demand and profitable given that essentially courtsiders and many other in play market players would want it. Any tech app developers out there???? please get one sorted!!!

Yes there does seem an obvious need I agree Richard but there must be some reason why one of the big companies haven't brought one out. I suspect like you that the technology to get the bets in quick enough isn't easy to build or the cost to maintain it is great.

    Welcome Richard

Wow sounds like you could certainly share a lot here from your previous experience working for the bookies and your track side stuff. I'd be interested to hear of anything you have to share.

As for software there are plenty of one click PC based software (Fairbot, bet angel, geeks toy etc) bit I'm not aware of a decent one for mobile. The other option could be to use remote connection to a PC or a VPS with those programs on via a tablet or use a laptop hooked up to a mobile hotspot? I'm guessing you may have tried these methods but speed of getting the bets on could be the issue.

Look forward to learning more from you
    Cheers and good luck
    Keith

    Thanks Ryan

On track was excellent, main problem being internet and software issues, i had multiple simcards to try and counter act such problems and at some courses the wifi was good. all you are looking for is a quick reliable app/software that offers a one click fixed stake lay or back and preferably green/red up option too, Traderline was app based and excellent but then wouldnt let me subscribe after the trial period and support was none existent from them, so then had to move onto a web based platform called bangbang bets which is ok but a little slower. There is an obvious inherent risk and had a couple of days where i lost big a couple of times, but the edge you gain if you have experience of race reading far outways the risk and with a bank of around a grand (to minimise any potential bad inplay trades) i was routinely making £300-£500 after expenses per day at the races, often leaving after making the profits 3 or 4 races in. not every race provided an oppportunity and it was a steepish learning curve. So if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask, and also if anyone has any other one click betfair software solutions I would love to hear from them!
