Hello everybody, it is good to meet you all.

My name is Andy and I am a fifty year old, long time gambler, poker-player and bad trader from North Wales. I have messed about with trading on and off since about 2005 and have not really made much progress. Recently though I have started watching videos and learning a few strategies mainly from here and from Peter Webb's stuff and have slowly started to understand trading a little more and even turned a small profit which I have used to invest in this site for a short while.

My main interests are football and horse racing and I am keen to learn a bit about tennis trading too.

I have always (albeit never successfully) believed in having a goal which can be split into three levels of success. These are a) something I am likely to succeed b) something I am only likely to succeed with very hard work and c) something I am unlikely to succeed - the holy grail - difficult but not impossible. When I apply that to what I hope will be a long and successful career with sports-trading, I have come up with the following:

Goal 1: To be able to make enough money per month to pay for this site's subscription, my Betangel subscription and to have a bit more on top for my own disposable income

Goal 2: To make enough money per month to allow myself to go part time in my main, meaningless job thus being able to devote more time to study and application of sports-trading

Goal 3: To be able to quit work, retire and go full-time sports-trading with lucrative result.

I am currently at the stage where I am not yet confident I will achieve goal 1 and therefore have decided to invest in joining you lot.

I want to learn, I want to share, I want to warn. I have made a committed decision to devote an enormous amount of time and energy to this as I really cannot face working in my job (or any other) full time for another seventeen years or more.

Anyway, that's me. Sorry for the long-winded waffle and if you are still reading (!!!), I hope to engage with you all soon.

    Regards,

    Andy

    @ryan

An excellent question. What would I see as success in the next three months?

I have decided to focus initially on football trading. It is less volatile that horse-racing and we are at the height of the football season with hundreds of potential trades available between now and the end of March. I am going to focus on two maybe three strategies - which I have not yet nailed down. For the next week I am going to read and watch all I can about different football strategies and learn how the filter work here and try maybe one or two trades a day. Then as I get more confident, i hope to be able to expand on that without going mad and see what I can turn my small starting bank into.

    So a win would be:

    • becoming familiar with this software
    • becoming confident with the two or three strategies I focus on
    • and let's be brazen about it, to have increased my bank enough for me to have achieved goal one over this short period and to be confident about being able to continue this success into the future. So to have won enough money to cover three months worth of subscription outgoings to here and BetAngel and to have increased my bank on top of that to allow for stakes to gradually grow.

On top of this, I need to work on my mentality too and learn how to be more disciplined. Accept losses. Stick to the plan. Don't let things ride after reaching the planned exit point just because it's gone against me. This is a crucial development I need to make.

And you know what? The ultimate win will be do simply enjoy what I am doing.

    Andy

    Love this post!

Welcome, that idea of breaking it into 3 goals I LOVE! Allows you to see progress as well. So many come and say I want to go pro, then get disheartened when it doesn't happen straight away but this way of thinking is really smart.

So I'll follow up with a Q I ask a lot of the guys who sign up here, what would be a win for you in the next 90 days?
