I'm Clare and I am English but living in Wales and have done for about 20 years (which was particularly hard in the Euros)

I am a complete newbie to trading. I have been matched betting for nearly 12 months which has made me look at odds in general and specifically sports that I watch
(cricket and F1 are my favourites to watch) and i have seen odds which have caught my eye and i have done a couple of BTL when i have thought there was value. This led me to start researching sports trading in general. I then found the podcast which i have listened to extensively this week and some of the things have really resonated with me.

I currently work in retail but its certainly not my ideal job, it has enough positives to outweigh the negatives currently but that's about all it has going for it.

I joined BTC to learn about trading. I think there are some things that suit my personality, i enjoy research, data and detail and I am interested in seeing if these will be a good fit for trading. I am here to learn, to read and to understand trading. Currently my only goal is to learn and see where that takes me.

@clare-taylor wat iv always found works best is when you spend all your time into one strategy at a time. So for you based on your cricket interest id stick with that. When iv tried to cross between 2 sports its never worked.

What i was suggesting is use the people who post set and forgets trades. You can call them value bets rather than trades. These are posted pre match. Place them and they should make a ticking bank. Id also encourage using only small stakes on these. Smaller than what the posters are using also. No more than 1-2 pts per game. These should act as a ticking bank and not a huge earner. Means you earn while you learn and with just placing these in the morning or at lunch time breaks etc. However if you have little interest in football scrap this idea and focus purely on cricket trading. Master that and you wont need football at all. I mean over 50% of my profit this last year has been from cricket alone. Its in my opinion the best sport for trading.

@darri having done lots of reading since you posted this last week i have a better grasp of what you are saying, but just to double check you mean Stuart's LTD, what you post in the football thread and anything else?

I enjoyed watching the odds along with the cricket last week and did dip a very small toe in LTD I managed to get some green so I am happy with that!

@ryan hey thanks, longevity has made me look at trading. Matched betting has been very good for a lockdown distraction but it has limited potential and a finite timespan. I also find the intellectual challenge of trading appealing I don’t tax my brain at work I would like to find a way to do that outside of work!

    @clare-taylor Hey Clare!

Welcome, what made you think about moving from matched betting to trading? 🙂

It's great to have you here. I won't overload you with info at this stage, but if you need help then you know where to go (As I just replied in private coaching 🙂 ).

Welcome to BTC Clare. You have come to the right place for learning! Everyone here is super helpful and will answer a question you have if they can. I see Darri has already pointed you to the best places for cricket, Richard Futter is a goldmine of knowledge for cricket trading.

Here is a link Martin set up for all the blogs:

    https://forum.betfairtradingcommunity.com/topic/2698/btc-members-forum-trading-blogs-list-links-here

I can heartily recommend engaging with people on the forum as much as you can, this is where I have gotten some of my most valuable lessons having started as a complete beginner myself about a year ago.

Best of luck on your journey 👍

@darri thank you! I will have a look at your blog too. I certainly am happy to learn football too, i am a casual fan tho so my starting point knowledge is basic at best.

    Welcome to BTC!

The cricket thread is probably one of the most valuable threads/topics on this forum. Richard Futter is a full time cricket trader and has helped many new traders with his posts. Perhaps watch to see what he is doing and try to understand why. Always a bonus to see you have placed a trade for him to also post the same thing.

I trade cricket also and trade mainly Ipl, Big bash and any other t20 tournaments. My results sheet is attached. I normally do a write up/summary of my trades in cricket over on my blog "the road to full time" have a read when you can see if it resonates.

What iv found with cricket is because its quite selective it can also be good to have some set and forget football trades. Plenty of traders posting their selections on the football thread and also the btc selections too. These help top up the bank allowing you to focus more on cricket.

Any questions just ask, really decent bunch of people on here 👍
