@Caroline Hey
Great to have you here & welcome!
Lovely opening post as well, looking forward to helping you and move your trading forward.
In terms of spending money on the Academy - I might ask what do you hope to get from purchasing it? (Then I will be able to let you know if its right for you )

@caroline Hi Caroline great to see a fellow devonian in here. I'm from down in sunny torquay. I'm fairly new on here but have been learning the game for around a year now so I'm more then happy to help if I can. Good luck your journey.

Caroline from sunny? South Devon
I have had various jobs from banking and stock broking to sales.
When I grow up I want to be a professional gambler or a bank robber or an art/jewel thief
I haven't really got involved in Betfair trading before though have used Betfair on and off for 20 years for betting purposes.
I started with matched betting, but its difficult to make a long term sustainable profit from that
More recently I have had success with each way value betting, however gubbed accounts have forced me to look to the exchanges.
I am retired with a pension going south at a rate of knots and would love to supplement my income with set and forget/automated betfair strategies as I am a busy person with lots of interests
I have set my self a year and £1k to prove concept (the £1k includes all subscriptions courses and bank)
I'm a bit of a magpie/butterfly (pick your metaphor) so my biggest challenge is not to get distracted by shiny new toys and stick to one thing
I looked at many options before joining BTC. I was initially scared off, but eventually chose this one because it has a nice mix of proven strategies to get you started plus hopefully a system to help you develop your own
Question I am a complete newbie to trading, though I suspect I will use this site to develop more set and forget/automated strategies, Is it worth me using £150 of my funds to join the BTC Academy?PS I'm such a numpty, I couldn't work out how to start a new thread and so had to 'reply' to this one. please enlighten me

Thanks Karl. I love stats and data but have become far too embroiled in them where the horses are concerned, and find that I'm constantly questioning my own judgement. I have several pieces of software that I've written, or had written, to automate the analysis and predict likely outcomes, but with 40 years of involvement to a greater or lesser extent, my gut still argues!

@paul-w ...Yes, you don't realise health is everything, you just take it for granted until something happens.
Good Luck in your weeks trial....I came in with the same attitude as regards Horse Racing being all my knowledge, but know I am very different, I work on stats and evidence rather than feelings!!
Weird for a start but now just do it......have fun!! -
Hi all.
I'm Paul, 61, originally from the midlands I now live on the west coast of Scotland.I've been a member of Betfair pretty much since it started, and over the years have dabbled in various types of trading, without really taking any of it too seriously. My real interest is horse racing, having owned a couple of horses many years ago. Since giving up ownership I've spent many years trying to apply everything I've learned, and have several pieces of AI software that I use to help me make an informed decision; sometimes that works well, but more often than not it doesn't!
So what has brought me here, now?
I worked long hours (80-100 a week) for many years, just to make ends meet, and then last August I got diagnosed with cancer. Thankfully, following major surgery and brilliant work by the NHS, I have come through that, but along the way I learned that there is more to life than working to make ends meet. The result is that I've decided to turn back to Betfair, but with a fresh view.
I won't be able to let go of the horses .... they are kind of embedded in me, but I feel that I have to let them become a hobby/pleasure, and look at other avenues as a means of income. I've always had an interest in football, but not a massive or in-depth knowledge - I'm a life-long Leicester City fan, which probably tells you all you need to know!! Ideally I will find a niche which I can look at automating (probably with help). It was when I started Googling and looking into ideas for this that I came across BTC, and for now I've just taken out a 1 week membership so that I can have a dig around and get a feel for the place.
I do have an inner 'gambler' which I have under control, but that is the reason I want to look into a new area and possible automation, I'll restrict any major input on my behalf to the horses, where at least I have an idea what I'm doing, and am probably too set in my ways to take anything new on-board where they are concerned; as a natural follow on from that, I'm not looking to learn great detail about players, leagues or clubs, rather data and statistics which can highlight profitable areas to target. An area where I am already inquisitive is goal timings, and in particular late goals scored and the possibility of backing those or laying a current score line at a given point.
I'm open to ideas and suggestions and welcome comments from all .... now! Time to start exploring ....

@neal-simmonds Nice, we get a lot of people on the email for a while then sign up. Great to have you here, you must have liked my 4 million emails I email a lot!
-
@ryan Well, I guess it wasn't any one thing! But I could narrow it down to finished work during Covid, which puts time on my hands & having a sufficient enough bank. I've been a subscriber for a long time now so I think this was always on the cards for me!
-
@neal-simmonds Welcome to the group matey and great to have you here.
What pushed you over the edge and made you go right that's it the time is now to join?
I love that you make spreadsheets for fun, you'll fit in well here. I always feel spreadsheets are a bit like stationary - everybody loves them deep down but doesnt want to admit it.
-
@neal-simmonds welcome glad you’ve got in ok!
I think you have the right attitude by the sounds of it not being a gambler but also not totally risk averse.
I love the fact you like spreadsheets, you will fit in well here!
If you need any help with anything let me know

Hey everyone! My name’s Neal, though I’m probably older than most of you (64) I’m new to the group a couple of days ago! Though I’ve had my eye on BTC for a long time! I’ve not been in any other groups & I’ve never followed any paid tipsters. But now enough stars have aligned & here I am.
I guess like Martin, I’m not cheap, but I don’t like parting with money unless I get value for it! (That’s the Yorkshireman in me) And I’m already seeing the value in being here! I’m a stats guy & I’ve spent 100’s if not 1,000’s of hours tracking statistics, race results, football stats at one time but its horse racing now, I’ve been out there on the prowl looking for an edge, convinced it’s out there somewhere!
Some years ago, I had a shot at Trading, it was Oil with me! & Well… Didn’t work out so well.
Neither am I a gambler, though I’m not wholly risk averse.
I’ve done some matched betting through Odds Monkey.
Apart from a trial of Bet Angel Pro! I’ve never used any Sports Trading bot or software though I’m old, I’m computer savvy & I’d put myself at better than most with spreadsheets! (I make them for fun).Anywho! I’m looking foreword to being an active part of the community & I’ll take all the advise I can get!

My Name Is Rich and i'm a returning member, i'm from Tarporley in Cheshire.
I have worked in the gambling industry for 20 years, and my specialist subject is horse racing. I have worked in the trading department of several large betting companies and currently work as an odds compiler, providing horse racing tissues. From a trading point of view a few years back i used BTC to start trading soccer (as a novice), the aim being to add another string to the bow to allow me to be more flexible with my trading life. I left simply because i had my betfair exchange account closed (ongoing issue).
I have now rejoined as i really like the soccer stats software and the help from other members and my aim is to now become a profitable soccer trader.
My working hours tend to clash with horse racing fixtures so won't be trading horse racing but willing to help anyone who has any questions regarding horse racing or the gambling industry in general.
Thanks!! -
Hi Ryan, ye ive been watching the videos, all very helpful and informative. switch from betting to trading was simple, i got fed up doing my nuts on 365. but im looking to learn the trading side just for a little bit of a side income. I'm moving to Cyprus soon and the idea of doing trades off my lap top for a few quid appeals to me. cost of living over there is low so £30-40 a day will do me just fine. i know its not ambitious but for now that's why I'm here trying to learn and see which trades are better. keep up the good work mate.
-
@ediz-orhan Welcome all sounds very sensible to me, start with the start here videos and apply those principles and you'll do well.
Great to have you here, what made you make the switch from betting to trading?
-
Good place to learn your trade, I was in same boat a few months ago, watch the videos, look at all the strategies already available, some make more than others, you will find you can Doctor some of the Good ones to input your own ideas....Good Luck!!

Hi Guys,
joined today. from London. been trading only 2 months or so, but i have been betting most of my life. I've been trading very low stakes just to learn and pick up a few pointers along the way. i want to get into automated and trade overs and under 2.5 and late goals. 2 or 3 startegies to start with, start with 1k bank and see how i do initially. does this sound sensible to you guys?? I'm new so any good tips and advice would be much appreciated.
good luck everyone

haha, yes I can remember him. max meyer thought he was the greatest football player of all times, that's why he left little schalke. a short time later everyone saw that he was only average.
-
@marcel-preuß I'm a Crystal Palace fan and we got Max Meyer from Schalke. He wasn't very good for us though
