@martyn-hemmens 100% I would say the daily email is perhaps your best place to start @Martin-Futter emails out selections daily that he's tested from the members and also the stats, this would be where I would start.

@martyn-hemmens hi mate and welcome.
Just on the point of software. The markets move so fast in horse racing that Id say software is basically essential.
The Betfair interface is more than adequate for football trading. There’s also some simple strategies for football which are really good for an introduction to trading. Lay the draw and as @Matt-Wood says second half goals are a good place to start. There’s in depth explanations on this on the site and throughout the forum.
I’d also say make use of the forum if you’re new to it. Ask questions and learn from others but ultimately be your own trader. Finding what works for you is ultimately the best way to success. You will become a better trader by joining BTC if you commit to it.
I wish you the best of luck.

Cheers Matt, even the acronyms are a bewilderment to start with “SHG” trading ?
Martyn.
Haha Im sorry its so easy to slip into using them, I had no idea when I started either.
Quick list of a few:
SHG=Second Half Goal
FHG=First Half Goal
1H or H1=1st half
2H or H2=2nd half
You might see reference to 'ELO' that is the football ratings (button between tennis stats and forum on the dashboard)Hope that helps a bit

@martyn-hemmens Welcome to BTC. Certainly you are in the right place to learn trading here.
I have been here 4 short months and my knowledge has come on loads thanks to everyone here. Feel free to shout any questions you have. There is always someone on here willing to offer some help.
Starting strategy, I can only speak from my personal experience, I would look at some of the SHG ideas. There are loads of different ways to trade SHG so find one that suits you. I say this as I bounced around like a pinball to begin with, very much a kid in a sweet shop, as there are almost endless opportunities.
I found that the best sense of control I have got so far is from SHG trading. Alternatively there is a BTC daily email sent out highlighting games from proven strategies. Make sure you read up on them in the strategies section first though.
Best thing you can do as a general point is listen to the pros like Ryan and Martin. They know what they are doing
Best of luck in your journey

@ryan-carruthers
Hi Ryan, as its probably my first real go at this, can you point into the right direction of a trading strategy that I should be starting with, I don’t mind whether it’s football or racing, and can I do it without having any trading software to start with?
Thanks
Martyn, -

Welcome to the group my friend!
I stopped the Casino offers as well! I didn't fully trust the variance and it started eating my profits - I knew I could make more with less time trading and most importantly I was in control of that situation!
With that being said, what's the one thing you want to get right first or answered so we can get you moving towards being a better trader?
-
Hi, I’m Martyn, hailing from North Yorkshire, been match betting for almost a year now, made a small/modest bank, but no where near some guys regularly post about, struggled with casino offers, I’m one of those unlucky people that never seem to get a break when doing the offers, I know the advice was too trust variance, but became a little to depressing day after day, so decided to quit casino, with the match betting I find myself spending several hours chasing the free bet offers, which as said earlier, I’m just not that lucky, and trying to keep ql’s To a minimum is becoming is a bit of a pain, re the amount of time I’m spending. (Says the wife)
Recently started watching trading videos on YouTube, which is where I found the BTC, was refreshing to see you guys discussing regular/normal stuff centred around trading, so thought I’d give you ago.
I’m currently employed full time, but recent events have forced me to think long and hard about the future, the big 60 next year, and with various events over the years not being kind, was looking at other possible income streams. Obviously I’ve dabled a bit over the last few weeks, lay the draw, overs/under, time decay, kinda stuff, but soon came to the realisation that I really need some help and guidance, so here I am, looking forward to chatting to you guys, hopefully you can start me on a path of trading successfully. I’m under no illusions that losses occur on the path to successful trading but what I can see so far from your community is there is a better way. So thanks for reading my waffle, and here we goMartyn.

Who you are? Hello my name is Allan
Where you are from? I'm from Denmark
What stage are you at in your trading journey. i have been trading on and off for a few years. when Corona kept me home from work for 2 month in april and may i decided to spend my time getting better to trading and to take it a step further and hopefully i can make it full time with in a few years.
What's your background? I'm a chef and one of the best;) with Michelinstars and all that s**t;)
Why did you join BTC? like everybody else that get into trading, i have been watching many many youtube videos and one day i saw some videos from BTC and for the first time it didn't feel like a cheater company. you guys are really good when you explain all your strategy and ideas.
What do you hope to get from the community? in the last few months after startet working again i haven't had the time to be an active part of the community. but i have been watching from the sideline.
as a newbie it's takes a bit of time to learn the trading terms, words, slang but when i got familiar to that its very interesting to follow some of the more experience traders and i will be an active part of the community in the future.What are some of your trading goals? I want to make it fulltime
-
@Martin-Futter O nice! I was a county player throughout my teens. That all came to an end as a 17-year-old when I discovered Yates and Weatherspoons!! I don't live where I grew up, so I'm really keen to find a good local club (lockdown sort of put a hold on that).
Do you find your knowledge of the games helps you with trading?
My preference was to really focus on mastering tennis trading as I know the game, however from what I can see, most games tend to be throughout the day, and as I work full time my trading hours would really be evenings and weekends. I was thinking that maybe starting with football trading would be more suitable because of this.
Do you think this is right or would evening and weekend trading be possible for tennis on a regular basis? And do you think its wise to try to master one sport at a time?

Hi guys,
It's great to be here and I'm really excited to get stuck in!
Who you are? - Alex Adams
Where you are from? - Brighton
What stage are you at in your trading journey - Beginner
What's your background? - I love sports and used to play a reasonably high level of tennis. I've had some experience trading Forex and Horse Racing and love sports stats.
Why did you join BTC? - I've been researching sports trading for some time, learning the basics, watching lots of videos on youtube (some great, some terrible) and generally just soaking up as much info as possible. As much as my Forex and horse racing strategies are bringing in good results, I have much more interest in trading other sports. I'd like to take what I have learnt through my previous trading experience and use that to help me learn and become successful in trading in areas that I am more passionate about (mainly football and tennis). I was really enticed by the BTC training videos but also the genuine desire to support members to become great traders.
What do you hope to get from the community? - I'd like to watch, listen, and learn, from others. I also love stats, so I'm obviously excited to get familiar with the data available.
What are some of your trading goals? - Firstly, I'd like to complete as much of the training available as possible. I would then like to get to the point where I have my initial routine and selected starting strategies in place so that I can start to forward test. I know that when I get to this point I'll be feeling a lot more comfortable with the tools available and what criteria I am looking for. Longer-term, I hope to get to a point where I am bringing in additional income with an end goal of trading full time.
Welcome!
How high did you get to in tennis?
I'm a keen club player myself.

@anthony-renham Just picked your Q up matey, for some reason it didnt notify me of it but I've got it now and on it
-
@ryan-carruthers - really kind words Ryan thanks. I am always happy to give thoughts on horse racing and on racing stats software; keen to help and impart any worthwhile knowledge I may have! It would good to give something back as already in one day on here I have learnt a lot, been impressed with the tennis stats part (although have got a question or two about it so would be good to pointed to who to ask if that's ok). Life is all about give and take and this community seems to have got this spot on.

Just a tad! 2001 I wasn't old enough to gamble (13). Amazing to have somebody with your level of experience as well we are working on horse racing stats software would be great to get your feedback on that.
-
@ryan-carruthers thanks for reply. The original site I ran was www.drawn2win.co.uk which started in 2001 (which I guess is a bit before your time!) and then I ran a site called Punter Profits until about 7 years ago. I still write articles for a couple of websites and many moons ago (2002 from memory) wrote a book with Graham Wheldon and Andrew Mount published by Raceform. I'm very impressed with the site already.
-
@anthony-renham Welcome!
Wow!!! What was/is the site?
-
Just using the questions you posted as it is easier!
Who you are? Dave RenhamWhere you are from? Wiltshire
What stage are you at in your trading journey? Have dabbled in trading for years with mixed success. Mainly horses and tennis; preferred area tennis.
What's your background? Ex school teacher (stopped earlier this year), but have run my own horse racing site; written racing articles for various publications inc. Racing & Football Outlook. Worked on Racing Post for a short time too.
Why did you join BTC? To get some support, hopefully make some good friends and hopefully improve my trading.
What do you hope to get from the community? As the previous question really.
What are some of your trading goals? To gain better discipline and make better informed judgements during in play. And hopefully to win some money!
Hope to get to chat to many of you in the future. I also hope I will be able to offer help to people where possible.
