Who you are? Hey Guys, I'm Andrew
Where you are from? I live in Melbourne Australia
What stage are you at in your trading journey? Believe it or not, I had no concept of trading the sports market 6 months ago... I stumbled onto it through youtube or Facebook. So I'm still very much a newbie. I've watched some youtube videos that people have posted on sports trading, which then lead me to purchase some online courses on trading football (Or as most people call it here in Australia - Soccer) and tennis. I've dabbled it both those market a little with varied success. Then the whole Covid19 saga started so have been limited since.
What's your background? I'm a chiropractor running my own practices here in Melbourne. Have been so for 20 years now
Why did you join BTC? Combination of the stats software (I love stats) to filter out numerous events that don't criteria for trading. I love the idea of an online community, of which I can learn from... Id love to know if there are any other Aussies on here too!
What do you hope to get from the community? My biggest hope is to learn from people who have been doing this successfully for a long time.
What are some of your trading goals? I would love to see myself as a "semipro" trader in the coming years... I know it takes time... but a group like this could really help.
Thanks again guys
Andrew

Oh you will not find negative chat in here, there's enough of that in the world with Coronavirus isn't there!

Who you are? Matthew
Where you are from? Live in York, but originally from Gloucestershire
What stage are you at in your trading journey? I've made several attempts to crack the sports trading 'code' over the years, but tend to get overwhelmed with it all and lose focus. Determined to start at the beginning again, and take my time and really understand what's required to make a success of it.
What's your background? Been self-employed almost all my working life, currently running a cleaning company.
Why did you join BTC? Disillusioned by a competitor site's negative tone, I find the BTC guys' to be a breath of fresh air.
What do you hope to get from the community? I hope to learn from the experienced traders who are making a consistent profit.
What are some of your trading goals? At this stage, simply to make consistent gains month on month and then see where it takes me.

@martin-futter Got it !! Thank you for replying !
-
@martin-futter Got it & thanks for the chart. But which way round is it....if stats look like there is an 80% chance of something happening, what are value odds? 80% = 1.25 so am i looking for odds above 1.25 (like 1.5) or below (like 1.15).?
-
@neil-houselander welcome! look forward to seeing you on the threads.
This chart will help you with relating decimal odds to percentages for value purposes: http://www.isfa.com/odds-probability-chart.php
The filters aren't representative of prediction percentages, they are showing what happened in the past 5/10/20 games from the home team at home or away team away. We use that to make predictions and test strategies. It is not to say that if a team has had 80% over 2.5 goals in their past 5 games that they have 80% chance of over 2.5 goals in their next match.

Hi I'm Neil.
Where you are from? Bristol
What stage are you at in your trading journey:
Started matched betting last April, made a bit of cash, then got gubbed by everyone ! Have been trading since November (very lightly) am up about £300 but in all honesty I had 1 lucky week which made be £400, so exclude that and 2.5 months of work for £100 made me realise I needed some help! What's your background?
Full time Banking & finance (not trading). Married with grown up daughter. Why did you join BTC?
See above - get some better strategies & a better mindset and make some cash. What do you hope to get from the community?
Advice, answers to questions that dont seem to come up on google !What are some of your trading goals?
Simple goal to make £500 per month trading 1 week night & 1 Saturday/Sunday a week. Rest is family time.I have an initial question that I can't figure out - around value... so I get the concept of how odds translate to probability e.g. the market has priced something at 2.0 so believes there is a 50% chance of it happening, if priced at 3.0 then 33% and 1.5 is 66% etc etc. But am I looking for with finding value trades? If i run a filter that says something has a 70% chance of happening then what am I looking for? Odds of 1.42 or higher? Or lower? Cannot get my head around it.

@karl-goulding Welcome to the group, love your image in the display on the forum.
Great to have you hear buddy, let me know if you need anything.
-
Your words are encouraging James. Thanks for your support and I hope you're productive now and this coming year when finding good trades.
I have only just scraped the surface of the video and blog content and there is so much useful stuff to learn.
-
@karl-goulding Hi Karl. Sounds like some similar mistakes to me mate. Best thing I did was lower my stakes when I joined and watched countless hours of the educational videos. Enough of it has sunk in that I don't find myself chasing anymore and am happy to just cop a loss. Still plenty to learn though!
Good luck!

I am Karl,
I am from a town called Worksop in North Nottinghamshire on the Northern edge of Sherwood forest.I started Matched Betting and moved to trading nearly 10 months ago.
I tend to trade four major sports; Football, Cricket, Darts and Men's Tennis and I've traded on Matchbook and Betfair before using the Geek's Toy.
However I made the same errors over and over which I hope to address and eradicate.
I have traded on my own and even though I did have moderate success, I failed over time after over-trading or just forgetting about the rules altogether and not keeping my stakes low enough and then blew my bank. I'd have some good plans and would get sidetracked sometimes.
This is the first day of my BTC subscription and I have learnt lots so far looking at Ryan's newbie stuff which has given me a blank slate and a new direction.
My goals are the same as James' who posted before me and I hope to mix with other BTC members, maybe I'll make a go of this yet.
Karlos
