Morning,
I'm new to trading but have quite a bit of match betting experience and understand exchanges and the principle of backing/laying, etc.
I first got into matched betting about 10 years ago but stopped when family life became more demanding. I recently restarted again but I'm frustrated by the gubbings and so I'm looking for a way to make some consistent income without that problem.
My day job involves data analysis and number cruching so this feels like a good fit. From my initial research, it seems that match selection and sticking to a plan is key...and having the data to make those decisions is crucial. Which is why I hope the stats/filters on BTC can help me.I like the idea of horse trading due to the volume of events, but I have less than zero knowledge in racing so I am going to make a start with football instead as this feels more straightforward as a way to (hopefully) build a bank.
All the best

So I'm a month in and things have changed a bit...
I originally planned on trading football and found some early LTD/FHG success (apart from that weekend when the Aussies stopped scoring!)
However, I have found the timing of the games doesn't work with family life and I was getting tempted to jump on things (i.e. forum tips) I hadn't properly researched myself or I missed closing a position when I got distracted by other things that were going on....so I have switched to horses as they are mainly during the day.The downside to this is that I know less than nothing about racing so I am trading cold, based mainly on stats without any knowledge about form, trainers, etc. So far so good though. I've been running a variation on the lay the tipster (similar to the email version but with different selection criteria). Paper traded for a week or two and now in with £2 stakes. I have ended the month in profit (despite a horrendous Saturday just gone!). Will keep this going although the set and forget nature doesn't quite feel like trading. Next I'll be exploring DOBing.
I started with a virtual £200 bank, but actually only had £9.31 in my account (leftover from matched betting). I found having such a small amount actually helped me as it stopped me trying to do too many trades at once and focussed the mind on not doing silly things. No reload needed so far and next months BTC membership has been covered.
