    Hi All,

Just joined yesterday. A bit of background, probably a familiar one, so started in matched betting and then exhausted all major opportunities in that space and started “trying” to get involved in sports trading around a year ago.

I have been consistent so far in that I have been consistently losing, making all the common mistakes in the process (not properly planning, over trading, over staking, chasing losses etc).

To date most of the trading has been on football (mainly HT LTD and some under 2.5 goals) with some tennis trading recently as well.

First goal is to prep better, stop making mistakes and stop making a loss.

I have a bunch of questions and will be reading and listening the material available in the coming days/weeks but first question I’m keen to get views on is below:

Why use the lay the draw strategy vs why use a strategy involving the goal markets?

I ask as assuming the game is a draw at point of entry both the above strategies generally require a goal to get profit, so interested to understand whether people think one generally has more value/ better odds over the other or whether it’s just a personal preference and the differences are minimal.

    Thanks,
    Andy

@andy-donnelly I'd say preference to be honest here, backing will mean you can keep it simple with the staking as say £2 on will be £2 loss if doesnt come in where laying will be £2 stake the liability will mean it could be X.

I'd say which one you feel more comfortable with the markets are efficient and mirror each other so there's no right or wrong answer.

Thanks Ryan, I suppose I was looking at it from a view of say a game is 0-0 at 60mins, from your experience is there an advantage to going for LTD at that point over using the 0.5 goals market?

I’m asking really as trying to decide whether to use the LTD strategy from a 60 min entry point or whether to use the late goal strategy. Would you recommend one over the other?

    @andy-donnelly Hey buddy,

    Welcome!

So I love the LTD & the goal markets, I don't think they can be traded the same in my view when you are doing a LTD you are looking for a team to score (if entering earlier in the game) and usually a team to score and comparing that to the other team to concede.

Entering later - you only need one goal for the market to over react and get out.

Goal markets - if entering the 2.5 for example you need a lot more goals for the market to react, if for example you enter at HT and its 0-0 you need a lot more goals for the overs to happens which affects price.

    Thanks Matt.

Good point, I have been burnt by the underdog scoring in the past. I suppose that’s a tick in the box for the overs strategy. On the flip side what’s the benefit of LTD and when use that instead of backing overs?

Welcome to BTC Andy. This is a top place for learning, loads of helpful voices around the forum plus all the extra material and software on the site.

I am fairly new myself but first thing I can think of to answer your question would be that in a LCS/back a goal at HT, it doesn't matter which team scores, you win. HT LTD might be affected if the underdog scores first, as in not much price movement.
I'm sure some of the more experienced heads on here will do a much better job of answering.

Best of luck in your trading journey 👍
