    Hi guys,

    Pleased to introduce myself

    Who you are? Ian Parry

Where you are from? Canberra, Australia

What stage are you at in your trading journey I've been trading for around a year now with mixed success. Most of my success has come from automation. I've created dozens of bots but only one has been profitable enough to continue with. That runs 24/7 on horse racing and makes me a bit of spare change - though not enough yet to quit work which is the ultimate goal.

What's your background? I'm a software developer by trade. I got into trading after realising that my matched betting days were numbered when I started getting gubbed. While matched betting was just a side income, once I started trading I realised the potential rewards were far greater than matched betting, but was also aware it is much harder.

Why did you join BTC? I feel stuck in a bit of a rut. I have come up with a few successful strategies but they are generally not scalable. Hoping to get some new ideas as well as share some of mine if anyone is interested. Also pretty much all of my trading is based on order flow - I don't look at stats at all. I was for quite a while hesitant to join as here in Australia we are not allowed to bet online on in play matches and it seems like most of the stuff on here is about in play. But with the horse trading software around the corner it seemed like a good time to join and see what this place is all about.
Martin's podcasts do a great job of selling it as well as giving good advice.

What do you hope to get from the community? I'm hoping to get some new ideas for strategies to work on and learn how to use statistical analysis in my trading.

What are some of your trading goals? The main long term goal is to go professional. Breaking it down a bit I want to better understand the mechanics of the markets and what makes them tick. Why did that horse suddenly drift when after coming in for the past 5 minutes. What caused the price to spike up within seconds then return to it's original value seconds later? It seems like a dark art, but one that is understandable - I just don't understand it yet.

    Hi Ian,
Im also new from Aus. I trade online in play everyday in Australia. What you need is a VPN and set it as New Zealand and you can trade on Betfair as you wish in play on everything.
    Cheers Gary
